Overview

PURPOSE:

Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicle, such as tractors and harvesters. Dismantle defective machines for repair, record details of repairs made, and parts used.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must have the ability to perform p/m services as required. Must be able to perform ARC welding, acetylene torch cutting, brazing, and soldering as required. Must be able to utilize hand, electric and pneumatic tools as necessary per job specifications. Ability to operate and maintain field service truck, following and servicing farm equipment in the field.

Ability to operate heavy and light equipment including but not limited to tractors, trucks, pickups, skid steers, loaders and other equipment as needed. Must be able to diagnose and make repairs on diesel & gas engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and on a wide variety of miscellaneous mechanical repairs centered on field-based heavy equipment. Assist co-workers in the shop and in the field. Maintain a safe and clean workspace at all times. Must follow directions from Supervisor/Manager. Must be able to clearly fill out job inspection and completion forms to detail in English. Support the shop 5S initiatives. Must follow all required safety procedures and guidelines. Lead by example the Division’s Mission, Strategy, and Values. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to continuously work outdoors all day in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Ability to inspect equipment and product. Ability to continuously work with product and equipment at ground level. Ability to manipulate small parts. Ability to work on uneven terrain both on foot and while aboard moving equipment. Ability to get on and off various stationary and moving equipment. Must wear corrective lenses if required/listed on driver’s license. Must be able to work in a high noise area. Must be able to move items weighing up to 75 lbs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have or be able to acquire a Forklift Certification. Must have a good understanding of hydraulic component installation and replacement. Must have experience in troubleshooting 12V and 24V electrical systems. Must have experience in diesel engine diagnostics and repairs. Must have ability to detect the cause(s) of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problem and perform related repairs. Must be able to practice sage use of mechanical liftin, floor jack lifting, and jack stands. Must have prior experience with operating a medium duty service truck in field applications. Must have mechanical aptitude and knowledge in the proper use of hand, pneumatic, welding and electric power tools. Must have the ability to manage parts budget, management, and inventory control. Must have at least two years of experience using stick and mig welding equipment. Must have the ability to fabricate and assemble equipment using a combination of machinery and tools in the shop and field. Must have the ability to read manuals and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics. Must have basic mathematical skills and keep accurate, complete and timely records of repair work performed. Know and follow prescribed company safety regulations and procedures. Bi-lingual English/Spanish required. Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% of the time to different growing regions as required. Must be able to travel and have overnight stays for extended periods of time depending on business need. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record. Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.
