Overview

PURPOSE:

 

This position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to troubleshoot, repair and maintain a wide variety of vehicles and farm machinery/equipment. Due to the variety of equipment/machinery this position must have a strong mechanical aptitude. At this level, this position should have a strong understanding for most all equipment/machinery.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Operate as a highly skilled mechanic with little to no training/direction needed to perform duties.
  • Ensures operation of equipment/machinery by providing preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment for day-to-day operation as well as at peak times during planting or harvest windows.
  • Must maintain a mindset of controlling downtime in-order for the agriculture team to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening/looking for problems, and utilization of various measuring and testing instruments.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals in-order to diagnose and repair or recommend to third-party providers.
  • Assist in maintaining the correct level of supplies, parts and tools for the shop.
  • Delivery of new or repaired equipment as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment throughout the shop, and while completing work in the fields.
  • Ensuring that fluids and parts are disposed of properly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ability to occasionally move about inside the office, shop and/or farming fields. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Operating hand and power tools, working on equipment that is elevated or low to the ground. Ability to inspect equipment. Ability to work on uneven terrain. Work in a wet and damp environment. Ability to continuously work outdoors and/or outdoors all day in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 110° F and as cold as 20° F to 32° F). Must be able to move items weighing up to 70 lbs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Five to seven years of mechanic experience required.
  • Farm machinery/equipment experience preferred.
  • Must be skilled in all manner of machine/equipment repair, to include mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to perform preventative and routine maintenance or learn quickly for a wide variety of machinery or equipment.
  • Able to drain and replace fluids, grease parts, and adjust/replace parts such as starters, batteries, etc.
  • While major rebuilds of things like engines and transmissions are generally handled by outside third-party providers, this position should be able to diagnose and recommend what is needed.
  • Skilled at a variety of hand and power tools, meters, diagnostic tools, etc.
  • Ability to remove defective parts by dismantling equipment/machinery; using hoists, cranes and hand/power tools.
  • Skilled at examining form and texture of parts to determine ware.
  • Skilled in operating in a collaborative manner with a team attitude, while executing sound judgement and professionalism with farm managers and various farm personnel.
  • Many specialized and common tools are supplied however, mechanics applying for this position should have many of their own tools.  
  • Must have the ability to be flexible and operate under stressful situations, have initiative and be results driven in-order to prevent down time for the agriculture team.
  • Remote work not available for this position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean DMV record.
  • Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical, and functional capacity exam.
