Overview

PURPOSE:

 

Assist with oversight of installation, repair and up keep of equipment/machinery and building needs. During peak periods of packaging/processing a maintenance supervisor may be utilized to cover alternative shifts from that of the manager, in-order to ensure maintenance supervision while operating in a multi-shift format. Additionally, this position may assist the manager in covering multiple facilities, and should have demonstrated leadership ability, coupled with a broad knowledge of maintenance skills.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School degree required. Any technical training a strong plus.
  • Five to seven years proven experience in maintenance environments is required.
  • Produce packaging/processing a strong plus.
  • Proven experience as maintenance supervisor with broad maintenance skills.
  • Must be skilled in all manner of machine/equipment operation, to include mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of packaging/processing machines.
  • Solid understanding of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, welding and other crafts.
  • Skilled at a variety of hand and power tools, electronic meters, material handling equipment, diagnostic tools, etc.
  • Ability to diagnose and recommend proper removal of defective parts.
  • Skilled at examining form and texture of parts with calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to ascertain wear.
  • Ability to fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment and teach technicians.
  • Able to utilize various hardware/software formats not only for day to day operation, but also able to gain a quick understanding of technology as it pertains to packaging/processing equipment.
  • Skilled in operating in a collaborative manner with a team attitude, while executing sound judgement and professionalism with operations.
  • Solid communication skills both written and spoken.
  • Outstanding organizational and teaching/mentor abilities.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible and operate under stressful situations while keeping a cool head and focus on overall goals and objectives.
  • Must operate with the highest ethics and integrity at all-times.
  • Remote work not available for this position.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally both local and out of the area depending on business need.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
  • Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Executes maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance processes/procedures as determined by the maintenance manager.
  • Works closely with all levels of technicians and/or third-party contractors to ensure effective installations, strong start-ups, on-going operation and mechanical changes, that help Grimmway Farms achieve annual operational goals and objectives.
  • Ensures operation of machinery, packaging/processing lines, examples are sorters washers, peelers, refrigeration equipment, cookers and other mechanical equipment.
  • This to be accomplished through training/guidance to maintenance technicians.
  • Provide guidance of emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment during packaging/processing, in-order to keep machinery operating at peak times.
  • Must maintain a mindset of controlling downtime as well as understanding of best times to make changes of parts or equipment.
  • Works closely with maintenance manager to execute layout of new, or rework of current lines and machinery during off-season.
  • This to include teardown and restructure of equipment to gain efficiencies and smooth start-up for coming seasonal operation or utilization of building space for a variety of produce processing and/or storage.
  • Locates sources of opportunities for recommendation to manager by observing mechanical devices in operation, and thinks strategically for best operational set-up and process flow.
  • Implement maintenance schedules, workloads, assign work to various technicians, work along-side of technicians and keep up with logs and reports.
  • Monitor expense of parts and supplies as well as control overtime.
  • Work closely with the maintenance manager to assist with plans and budgets for equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for proper maintenance.
  • This includes insuring the correct level of in-house inventory.
  • Maintains a safe, healthy and clean work environment throughout all packaging/processing facilities.
  • Works closely with maintenance manager, facility leaders, food safety personnel, and outside agencies to recommend procedures, processes, rules and regulations for optimal operation.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ability to occasionally move in food processing facilities, and in the farming fields. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to inspect equipment and product. Operating hand and power tools, working on equipment that is elevated or low to the ground. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
