TITLE:                       TRAVELING FIELD QA/FOOD SAFETY INSPECTOR

LOCATION:              LAMONT, CA

COMPENSATION:    $20.00 / HOUR

 

 

PURPOSE:


Responsible for the monitoring of product quality during growing and harvesting.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • College degree in Biology, Food Science, or related field/farming knowledge/experience preferred.
  • Computer knowledge of Excel and Word are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills needed, along with the ability to communicate effectively at all
    levels of the organization.
  • Must possess the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be willing to travel out of Kern County area throughout the week when necessary.
  • Employee may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
  • Must work in the Coachella area for approximately four months out of the year during entire winter harvest
    season. (Housing or housing allowance is provided by the company). No vacations (PTO) will be allowed during this time and excessive unexcused absences will result in either end of assignment or transfer back to Lamont.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Remote work not available for this position
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
  • Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary job function is the monitoring of product quality during growing and harvesting and field employee’s adherence to Good Agricultural Practices.
  • Must drive to surrounding areas and make visual checks on field conditions and submit written and oral reports of findings.
  • Candidate will also be working in and around production facilities to ensure that the company’s organic and food safety programs are compliant with all relevant auditing requirements including the National Organic Program and Food Safety Modernization Act, to review Good Agricultural Practice programs and assist in the training of personnel to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Identify areas of potential Food Safety concern and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Always protect security and confidentiality of company information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with all applicable representatives of Grimmway Farms, growers, harvesters, suppliers, etc.
  • Perform other related tasks and job duties as directed by Food Safety Compliance Supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ability to occasionally move about inside the office, food processing facilities and frequently move around farming fields. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to inspect equipment and product. Ability to continuously work outdoors all day in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Ability to work with farming chemicals. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 110° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F). Work in wet and damp environment. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
