Mechanical Harvesting Machine Operator

TITLE:                           MECHANICAL HARVESTING MACHINE OPERATOR 

LOCATION:                   VARIOUS HARVESTING LOCATIONS 

COMPENSATION:        16.50 / HOUR

PURPOSE:

To safely and efficiently operate a harvesting machine in the Organic Harvesting area.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1 – 2 years of experience on repairs of basic mechanics, preferred.
• Knowledge of organically approved maintenance, preferred.
• Ability to safely operate pickup, trailer, pressure washer, air compressor, and other basic tools, required.
• Ability to operate tractors, required.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish, preferred.
• Must have the ability to travel 5 months out of the year, as required to: Yuma, Coachella & Westmorland
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean DMV driving record.
• Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Transport product, packaging materials, ice, portable restrooms, portable water, and other items as assigned safely to various field sites. Operate machines safely and effectively. Maintain equipment and work area clean. Wash and clean tractors and harvest equipment. Check tractors and trailers for damage, tear and wear and report findings to the supervisor. Complete necessary paperwork as required. Assist as the Harvest Support Driver when needed. Practice and enforce company safety policies and procedures, including public road rules. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to frequently move about in the farming fields. Ability to work outdoors in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Ability to continuously work with product and equipment at ground level and uneven surfaces. Ability to operate tractors. Ability to work on uneven terrain both on foot and while aboard moving equipment. Ability to get on and off various stationary and moving equipment. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
