Grimmway Produce Group is seeking an Agronomist to assist in the development and implementation of total crop management plans for vegetable and agronomic crops, with a focus on carrot production. This position will have agronomic oversight responsibilities for all organic and conventional carrots grown by the Grimmway Produce Group nation-wide. What You Will Need:

  • This position is specifically for a carrot agronomist with general expertise in the commercial production of organic and conventional vegetables.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of plant and soil science and its practical application in a farming environment required.
  • Must be familiar with commercially available fertilizers, crop protection products, and irrigation methods used in commercial vegetable production.
  • Familiarity with common pests and diseases of vegetable crops also required.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working on a commercial farm or working directly with farmers.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, presentation, and communication skills needed and ability to work with all levels of employees and administration.
  • Must be data driven and have high competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to learn internal company software and work with data analysis software tools like Tableau, Power BI, R, and AI applications is required.
  • Certified Crop Advisor license must be obtained within one year of employment and be kept current and in good standing thereafter.
  • Must have a strong fiduciary mindset and be a person of high integrity who can be trusted to handle confidential or privileged information responsibly.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight on a seasonal basis up to 25% of the time.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record.

What Will Set You Apart:

 

  • Direct experience with commercial carrot production preferred, but learning curve will be allowed for otherwise highly qualified applicants.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with vegetable and agronomic crops specific to California and the Western US, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southeast is preferred
  • Knowledge of experimental methods used in agriculture desirable.
